IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE? Absolutely. The art of acupuncture is as old as Chinese civilization. Needles are nearly as thin as a human hair. They are painlessly inserted through the skin by a skilled practitioner, and will not damage any tissue.
Acupuncture is relatively painless, but the patient may feel the sensation of heaviness, distension, or tingling. This sensation may only be at the location of the needle, or may travel across the Meridian pathway that is being affected. This sensation usually a sign that the patient is adjusting toward balance.
All needles used in this clinic are disposable. They are prepackaged and sterile, used only once, and then discarded.
After completing the initial patient questionnaire, Dr. Gorman will meet with you. She will perform an extensive interview and any physical exam she feels is required to formulate a working Oriental medicine diagnosis and treatment plan specifically for you.
Some key things to keep in mind when choosing a particular mode of treatment are the cost and frequency of treatment. Frequency: Acupuncture can be very effective with just one treatment but in many chronic disorders that involve a patient's constitution, several appointments may be necessary. Cost: The cost of acupuncture is $65 for your first visit, usually lasting 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Return visits are $55 for one hour. The cost of Chinese herbs and medicines is relatively inexpensive and affordable to most people. Most oriental medicine treatment is done right here at the clinic.
